Learning to Trust Ourselves

A few weeks ago, I taught a class on a Goddess that is a newer connection for me. I researched her, meditated, and wrote a syllabus. The night of the class, my notes would not print. The historical background, the names, dates, and locations all had to be explained. As someone who likes to get things right, I was a nervous. I was forced to teach the class from memory. In the end, everything worked out and the information freely flowed. This was a quick, hard lesson in learning to trust myself. I was reminded that no matter how much this Virgo likes to have certain things in order, nothing is ever certain. There are no guarantees. The feeling of being in control is something we convince ourselves that we have, but we don’t. It is a lesson that comes to all of us in different ways. How we deal with those obstacles depends on how we move with the situation. Happily, this experience went well.

The Goddess for the class was Bona Dea, the Good Goddess. She is the Goddess of fruitfulness, but not just of the Earth. She helps us see our own value and worth and with it, our own fruitfulness. It can be scary to step out of our comfort zone and into our own power. Sometimes, the forces around us conspire to create a situation where we must trust ourselves with what we know as it propels us into a sea of uncertainty. It is part of our evolutionary process. There is no way out of a situation but to go through it. We will never know what we truly can be capable of unless we take the leap of faith and trust ourselves. Through this process, we discover what we are made of and experience our own fruitfulness, whether we succeed in the challenge or not.

Learning to trust yourself is about learning who you are. Each experience helps us expand our boundary line when it is time to grow. When we cross the line of our comfort zone, we are treading into the unknown and uncomfortable. That is how we transform our routine into new life and dreams. By working with our fears and using them as fuel, we can finally break free from what holds us back. How many times have you said that you are struggling or fighting through the day? When we do, we are contained in the mindset that there is something out there opposing us and perhaps ‘they’ want us to fail. But if we take a moment to pause and reflect honestly, could the ‘they’ in this example be ourselves? This was a hard truth that I rediscovered recently. It was a familiar pattern that was uncovered at a deeper degree. Again, it is the revealing of hard truths that help us grow and transform our fears into experiences that let us see our fruitfulness. We will never know what we can do if we never try. Taking appropriate risks helps us put our dreams and the seeds we planted into action. It is imperative that we cultivate our potential and fortitude by creating and trusting clear actions for our path. It is how we can move forward and reap the bounties of our labors. Trust in your abilities and experience the fruitfulness of your hard work. You are worth it.

Be well today,
